ESSI brings together students from across Indiana University who care about the environment, sustainability, and the future we share. We believe strong communities are essential to addressing environmental challenges and building more sustainable solutions. That’s why ESSI helps students find their community, shape it throughout their undergraduate experience, and invest in the organizations and initiatives that make it stronger.

Find Your Place at IU
SustainCollins Living-Learning Center (LLC)
The SustainCollins LLC is Indiana University’s residential dorm community for students interested in sustainability and the environment. Located in the Collins Living-Learning Center, SustainCollins, gives students from any major or background the opportunity to live alongside peers with shared interests, join group trips (e.g., visit the Exotic Feline Rescue Center, Indy Zoo, hikes in Morgan-Monroe State Forest, etc.) and take part in exclusive programs, like the SustainCollins Experiential Learning Activity, which also provides several competitive scholarships.
Student Organizations
IU students lead and participate in organizations focused on sustainability, conservation, climate, outdoor recreation, environmental advocacy, and much more. Explore opportunities to meet other students, pursue shared interests, and get involved beyond the classroom.
Shape Your Community
Environmental Student Advisory Board
The Environmental Student Advisory Board (ESAB) gives students a direct voice in ESSI and the broader environmental student experience at IU. Board members identify student priorities, provide feedback on academic programs, and work together on projects and initiatives that strengthen the environmental community.
ESSI Sponsorships
Great ideas often start with students. ESSI provides sponsorships for student organizations, events, projects, and other activities that enrich environmental and sustainability life at IU.
Whether you are part of an established organization or developing something new, we want to help students turn good ideas into meaningful opportunities for the campus community.
