The Integrated Program in the Environment (IPE) empowers students to explore environmental and sustainability issues from any discipline and any angle. IPE is the hub for all environmental and sustainability-related programming on the IU Bloomington campus.

IPE students grow careers, make Indiana more resilient

Through the McKinney Climate Fellows program, IPE students sophomore Braya Benjamin and senior Mary Grace Jacko worked on projects that directly benefited the state. Benjamin created a greenhouse gas inventory for the Indianapolis Public Library. Jacko contributed to the project that secured a $117.5-million Solar for All grant.

Sustainability Scholar co-authors published paper, receives award

Lauren Ulrich received the 2024 Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity for work she began as a 2020–21 Sustainability Scholar. As an extension of the Scholars program, she co-authored a research paper on environmental journalism with Dr. Suzannah Evans Comfort, The Media School, that was eventually published in Journalism History.

Student group plants campus' future

Student organization Rewild IU is working to make sure IU Bloomington keeps its reputation as one of America's most beautiful campuses. Rewild IU aims to manage and restore campus' natural areas, removing invasive species, protecting existing native plants, and even starting their own tree nursery at the Research and Teaching Preserve, with more than 48,000 seeds locally adapted.
