Research

Research the environment from every angle

At IU, students can research alongside and take classes from world-class faculty leading their fields across disciplines.

ESSI-affiliated faculty members have been awarded some of the highest honors in the environment. They're Guggenheim Fellows and best-selling authors. They research environmental threats facing Indiana, the United States, and the broader world, all while building more resilient communities.

Students work alongside leading researchers in the sciences, policy, business, public health, the humanities, the arts, and technology—bringing IU Bloomington’s full strength to the defining environmental questions of our time.

Whether you want to join an established research team, gain experience in the laboratory or field, or develop a project of your own, ESSI offers the mentorship, support, and community to help you turn curiosity into meaningful research.
